It was a pretty great day.
I asked them to write letters to my students. Apparently I explained Tar Heel pretty well.
Love this student’s ability to explain compassion! That is really beautiful!I taught them about North Carolina food & culture. But, I may have misrepresented Cheerwine.
I love this student’s enthusiasm for Korea!
This was my sweet guide Jade who was with me throughout the day. I really appreciated her kindness & willingness to teach me about her life. She thinks we need to blend the Korean & American education systems so students will be more well rounded, but still focused on learning as much as they can. That sounds great to me!
She really was so appreciative of the chance to meet us. She wants to be a teacher. I’m excited for her to enter this profession!
And they were interested in pimento cheese! Yum!
They do want to try barbecue!
I taught these Korean students at Goyang Foreign Language High School some North Carolina facts & history today.
King Sejong’s tomb. Learn more about him from one of my first posts: http://emilybjolley.tumblr.com/post/25988109597/today-we-visited-the-older-part-of-seoul-the
Beautiful doors at Haien-sa.
Buddhist monks drumming for the call to meditation at Haiensa Temple. One monk would drum until he got tired, and then another would join in and take over for him. They all had their own beat & flow!
The drums have to be made out of hides from a bull & a cow (male & female) who have died a natural death. They also rang the bell (which I did on Friday!). When they ring the bell, it alleviates souls in hell because torturers can’t torture while the bell rings.
It was really amazing to watch.
